Fan blade refurbishment
Assessment and repair options for deteriorated FRP cooling tower fan blades.
Assess the damage before deciding to replace.
FRP fan blades can show erosion at leading edges, cracking or flaking at trailing edges and surface deterioration associated with exposure. Visible damage needs assessment to establish whether repair is appropriate.
ENG-TECH’s technical sheet describes rebuilding damaged leading and trailing edges using the manufacturer’s repair process, followed by a polyester gel-coat finish. The method and suitability depend on the blade and the nature of the damage.

Options & scope
Selected for your installation.
Condition assessment
Record cracks, pitting, erosion, surface deterioration and scale, alongside any reported vibration.
FRP repair & laminating
Leading- and trailing-edge repair carried out to an appropriate manufacturer repair process where the blade is suitable.
Access & work sequence
The published example was completed within the fan cell. Access and component condition determine whether that approach is practical.
Repairability is a decision, not an assumption.
The extent and location of damage, the blade construction and the applicable repair process must all be considered. Photographs help an initial discussion, but a repair decision may need closer inspection. The wider fan assembly and operational observations should be included in the brief.

Questions worth asking.
A clearer brief helps us identify a practical next step.
Can every damaged blade be refurbished?
No. The damage and blade construction need assessment against the applicable repair process. Replacement may be the appropriate route.
Can the work be carried out inside the fan cell?
The original technical sheet shows this approach on a specific job. Your installation needs its own access and method assessment.
